This collection of furniture first designed by Lucien Rollin between 1933 and 1946 represents a selection from amongst 2700 unique designs in Monsieur Rollin’s archive in Paris. When I visited the meticulously organized archive at the Atelier of Natalie and Patrick Aubriot to select the first collection, I was awestruck by the vast quantity of beautiful designs produced by this master of French Moderne style.
I was delighted to visit with Mr. Jean-Pierre Bonneyrat-Rollin, Lucien Rollin’s son at the family estate to see many of the originals. The opportunity to spend time with the Rollin family in Paris truly enhanced the precious nature of the project our family has undertaken with the family of Lucien Rollin.
Orchestrating this project has challenged me on many levels. What we present to you here in this first collection are some of the best designs which represent Mr. Rollin’s cohesive, understated style. It is ironic that several of the chair designs were never produced. Discovered in the form of working drawings, we are now making them for the very first time.
It is truly an honor for William Switzer to have been chosen by the family of Lucien Rollin to produce The Lucien Rollin Collection. |
